La Casa del Indio

El Indio Fernández was an actor, producer, and mentor for Mexican cinema and also a character whose life generated many great myths. His house was built in 1945 in a style reminiscent of the haciendas prior to the revolution. El Indio lived a large part of his life in this house which is located on a quiet street in the south of Mexico City. This retreat became a meeting place for intellectuals and famous celebrities, such as Marilyn Monroe, Frida Kahlo, Dolores del Río and is rumoured to have sheltered Che Guevara in its basement. On the grounds you will find baptismal fonts, statues of saints and other sculptures that were rescued from convents and other places visited during El Indio`s film career. Over 140 films have been shot at this location and it continues to be used as a film set several weeks during the year. This spacious house with high ceilings, walls built of volcanic rock from the area, multiple courtyards, intricate corridors and mysterious hideaways is located just 15 minutes from the Mexico City International Airport and can host events from 50 to 300 people.
